It’s the return of my advertising event! We used to hold these regularly but since I got pretty busy last year, the parties started getting fewer and fewer. Hehe. It’s really different when you’re not in an ad agency anymore and able to promote and convince everyone to attend.

It had to take a damn good reason me to get off my lazy ass and start organizing this latest event. It’s a FUNraiser as you can seel. DJs from different ad agencies will be spinning at URBN (where else? haha) and we’ll be giving away a ton of items including one I want to own: a pair of signed boxing gloves by Manny Pacquiao that he wore for a Nike shoot.

Hope to see you there! Yours truly will be hosting that night! :)

Congratulations to one of my dearest friends Icel and her husband Jessie for tying the knot! These two were childhood friends who had a crush on each other back in college (or was it high school?) but went their own separate ways after moving out of their province Valenzuela. (Jessie found a job in Dubai while Icel worked in Makati for some of the top advertising agencies.) It would only be years later that their paths would cross online, thanks to Facebook. Several chats and phone calls later, they realized that they were meant to be. Jessie came back to Manila and months after Icel packed her bags and moved to Dubai.

The two have been happily together ever since. Yesterday, they had a small and simple wedding in their hometown before flying back to Dubai. Would you believe Icel planned everything in just a week and a half? Haha! Crazy!

They look sooooo happy and cute together! I’m thrilled she’s found the love of her life. Congrats again Jessie and Icel! <3

Caught Up Dharma Down last night at Craft at the Fort in probably the longest performance I’ve seen them do. UDD is one of my favorite local bands ever since they first broke into the band scene about 8 or so years ago. They were one of the first Philippine acts to introduce a touch of electronic pop in their music which I absolutely adore.

Armi Millare, the lead singer, has one of the most amazing voices I’ve heard. When she sings I swear I probably have this gawking expression on my face. The rest of the band members are also just as good. During their performances I really, REALLY pay attention to the music. Like I check out the buttons they press on their controller thingamajig to make all those sound effects, or scrutinize their strumming or drums pounding. Obsessed much?

Here’s a clip of their last song. I only caught the latter part where they mixed Turn It Well with Here Comes The Rain by The Eurythmics. Galeng noh?

I finally got a copy of their latest album Capacities and hell, it does not disappoint. The entire album is GREAT. Grab one for P500 or buy it on iTunes. Support local artists! :)

Dove’s latest ad aims to change how people see themselves. Beautifully done, this short video stirs raw emotions of insecurities that we all keep hidden to ourselves and ends with the simple reminder that we are all more beautiful than we think.

As with most “successful” ads, there’s also a lot of flak around this particular spot. Some people feel it’s biased, others unreal and the list goes on.

I suppose you can argue it from various points of view and still make a point. Nevertheless, I still choose to see this ad for the same, simple message stated above. As a woman, I completely resonated with it. It moved me, it made me cry. I felt it was honest, insightful and real. Was it staged? Probably. Will it make me buy more Dove soap? Probably not.

BUT, it did make me think twice about myself. It made me appreciate the brand for pointing out a very sad tendency that most of us women have: focusing on our flaws rather than appreciating what makes us special and unique. And yeah sure, we all KNOW it’s wrong to be insecure and constantly compare ourselves to others. But we do it anyway. We don’t like talking about it, but I can guarantee you that it happens all the time.

So yeah, to be reassured once in awhile that the rest of the world sees us to be pretty amazing creatures—beautiful in every way, is a wonderful thing. It’s a boost. It feels good. And it makes you think, heck yeah, I’m pretty awesome. I knew it!

To this I still say, well done, Dove. Well done.
